MikanMessage

Say it on screen, then get out of the way.

MikanMessage adds one action to Apple Shortcuts: Display Message. It shows a floating heads‑up message — a dark rounded pill with bold white text — that fades in, holds for a moment, and fades out. No banner to dismiss, no Notification Center history, no focus stolen.

Status from your shortcuts, right where you're looking.

One action, three settings

Search Shortcuts for Display Message and drop it in wherever you want to know something happened.

Message

Any text, including variables

The words to show. Long messages wrap onto more lines; the pill grows to fit.

Position

Default: center

Center, an edge, or any corner of the screen.

Duration

Default: automatic

Seconds to keep it up. Leave it at 0 and MikanMessage scales the time to the length of the message, from 2 to 10 seconds.

Never in the way.

The message floats above full‑screen apps and on every Space, but never takes keyboard focus — keep typing straight through it. Click it to dismiss early.

Always the latest.

Fire off several messages in a row and each one replaces the last, so a chatty shortcut never stacks up a pile of pop‑ups.

Starts itself.

If MikanMessage isn't running, Shortcuts launches it. It lives quietly in the menu bar with no Dock icon — just a test message and Quit.

The fine print

  • Works from any shortcut, automation, or app that runs shortcuts
  • Nine positions: center, four edges, four corners
  • The shortcut keeps running while the message is up, then continues
  • First use asks a one‑time permission — run the shortcut once inside the Shortcuts app to approve it
  • Native Swift app, menu bar only
  • No network access, no account, no tracking
