The Mikan Software mark: a mikan with a green leaf

Small Mac apps,
easy to peel.

Every Mikan app starts as a small annoyance on my own Mac — the kind you live with for years because nobody got round to fixing it. So I fix it, use the fix every day until it's right, and then share it.

Why “mikan”

A mikan (みかん) is the Japanese mandarin: small, sweet, and famously easy to peel — the skin comes away in one go, and there are usually no seeds to deal with. It's the fruit you eat without thinking about it.

That's the standard for the apps. Small enough to understand at a glance. Easy to get into: install it and it just works, with no account or setup tour standing between you and the thing it does. And no seeds — nothing hidden inside, no tracking, no surprises.

What every app promises

The same four things, whether it's free or paid.

One job, done properly

An app here does one thing. It doesn't grow a dashboard, a companion service, or a settings window that needs its own search field. When the job is done, the app is finished — and finished software is a feature.

Made for the Mac

Native Swift apps that behave like Mac apps: they respect your menu bar, your Spaces, your focus, and your battery. Nothing is a web page in a frame.

Nothing phones home

No accounts, no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no third‑party SDKs, and no Mikan server for anything to report to. When an app does need the network — Claude Usage reads your limits from claude.ai — the privacy policy says exactly what it sends and where, and you can watch it with a firewall.

Signed and notarized

Every release is signed with a real Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so macOS's own Gatekeeper checks pass without a workaround or a trip to System Settings.

Who's behind it

Mikan Software is Scott Willsey, writing the Mac tools I reach for and can't find. Each one runs on my own machines for a good while before it gets a page here.

The apps live under Apps. Source for anything open source will be on GitHub.
